UCCS to host exhibit on World War II Japanese internment camps

Our friends at the Heller Center for Arts and Humanities down in Colorado Springs are putting on an exhibit focusing on the lives of Japanese-American who were detained at Amache confinement site in southeast Colorado.
Boyer Small Books Collection Featured in Westword

In a September 25th Westword Blog post entitled "From the Archives: The oddity of the Boyer Small Books Collection" Shaughnessy Speirs provides an overview of one of Auraria Library's most special collections.  Featured in the article is a brief history of the Boyer Small Books Collection, some excellent photographs of collection stand-outs, and, of course, a nod to our very own superstar archivist, Rosemary Evetts.

An ethnobotanical study it is arranged alphabetically by plant name.  The author gives the pertinent information - name, family, elevation, etc. and then provides an essay on the plant uses.  It also contains line drawings.
The Auraria Library is the only library that owns this volume.

The All America City award was created in 1949 by the National Municipal League - now the National Civic League.  It is open to neighborhoods, towns, cities, counties and metropolitan regions.  To win, each community must demonstrate innovation, inclusiveness, civic engagement, and cross sector collaboration by describing successful efforts to address pressing local challenges.
